About Rockford Better Nursing Homes

Rockford Better Nursing Homes (RBNH) is an independent information guide about nursing homes and senior care in Rockford and across Illinois. We are not a nursing home, we do not operate any care facility, and we are not affiliated with River Bluff Nursing Home, its current operator, or Winnebago County. If you are looking for that specific facility, see our history page on River Bluff Nursing Home, which explains the connection and points you to how to find its current, official information.

Why This Site Exists

Choosing a nursing home, understanding admissions, and figuring out how Medicare and Medicaid actually apply to long-term care are difficult even for people who do this professionally. Much of what is publicly available online is either a facility's own marketing material or a directory site built mainly to generate referral leads. RBNH was built to do something different: explain the process in plain language, point directly to the primary government source for every important claim, and avoid any content that depends on being trusted rather than verified.

Who Writes and Reviews This Content

Content on this site is produced and reviewed by the RBNH Editorial Team rather than attributed to invented individual authors with fabricated credentials. We believe that in a sensitive, YMYL (your money or your life) subject area like nursing home care, a transparent editorial process matters more than an unverifiable personal byline. Every article lists the date it was last reviewed, at the top of the page, so you can judge how current the information is.

Our Sourcing Standards

Every factual claim on this site that can reasonably be tied to a source is tied to one: a federal agency (the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Medicare.gov, the National Institute on Aging, the Administration for Community Living), a state agency (the Illinois Department of Public Health, the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services, the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation), or a comparable primary source. Where a number or rule changes periodically, such as a specific dollar threshold or day limit, we describe how the rule works and tell you to confirm the current figure at the official source rather than publishing a number that may already be out of date by the time you read it. We do not publish sponsored rankings, paid placements, or "best nursing home" lists, since those lists are only as good as the undisclosed criteria behind them.

What You Will Not Find Here

You will not find resident or staff photos, because we cannot verify consent or context for images from any specific facility, and using stock photography of real identifiable people in a healthcare context raises its own concerns. You will not find testimonials attributed to named people, because a publisher cannot independently verify a stranger's account of a private caregiving experience, and fabricating one would be far worse. You will not find admission forms, job applications, or donation forms, because RBNH does not provide care, employ caregivers, or collect money on behalf of any facility. And you will not find guarantees about treatment outcomes, because no legitimate source makes that kind of promise for a specific individual's health.

About the rbnh.org Domain

This domain previously hosted the website of River Bluff Nursing Home, a Winnebago County-affiliated facility in Rockford, Illinois. That facility's website was abandoned after the facility came under new ownership and moved its web presence elsewhere. Rather than let the domain's history disappear, RBNH restores many of the original page addresses with entirely new, independent content about nursing homes and senior care generally. This is disclosed clearly throughout the site, including a notice on the River Bluff history page and the contact page, so there is no confusion about who publishes this content today.
